107 years young!!
A tenant of Chevin Housing Association- Ralph Burgess-Tarrant celebrated his 107th birthday on 7th July 2010 followed by his 77th wedding anniversary on 8th July 2010.
Ralph and his wife Phyllis are the oldest living married couple in Britain with Phyllis being the youngster at 101!!!
Married in 1933, the couple have two Daughters, seven Grandchildren, ten Great Grandchildren with one on the way and one Great-Great Grandchild.
Ralph has lots of fantastic memories with tales to tell and grew up loving sports, including football, gymnastics and running. He has worked all of his life from leaving school, from being an office boy to working in the steel industry as an Estimator and Steel Inspector then on to selling insurance with four years served in the RAF. Once retired Ralph and Phyllis have enjoyed travelling to various destinations seeing the sites and have visited America over eight times. All of Ralph's life has been captured by his family in a fantastic ‘This is Your Life' album which they presented to him on his 100th birthday and Ralph was delighted and is very proud of this album.
Ralph said "We are still very independent, enjoy life and get out when we can going to lunch clubs and shopping most weeks. It's still exciting when the Queen's card comes even though I have eight now and Phyllis has two. I've had a really lovely birthday with lots of visitors and we've had a nice anniversary too with Paula from Chevin Housing turning up with some beautiful flowers which was a nice surprise".
