A trip down memory lane for youngsters
Local Children from Denaby Main Primary School visited tenants at Harrogate Court (an extra care scheme managed by Chevin Housing Association Ltd), to find out what life was like when they were younger.
The children were very interested and enthusiastic and had prepared various questions that they wanted to ask, many about the war, what games they played and what life was like during bombing raids.
One of the questions asked was "What was the happiest day you can remember of your childhood?" The reply "The day the war ended" which struck a chord with everyone. The tenants were delighted that the children were so interested and said "We really enjoyed talking to the children, it made us remember things that we hadn't thought about for many years".
The children were also shown old items from many years ago. These included an old portable typewriter which they enjoyed typing away on with one child asking if they could have one at their school!! Other items included an old camera, old driving licence, one of the first plug in clocks and an old house keeping book.
All of the children said that they had enjoyed meeting and talking to the tenants and had gathered plenty of information which would be written up when back at school.
Photographed: Children with tenants learning about the old days.
