Regional Housing Minister visits Chevin's Hull development

Regional Housing Minister visits Chevin's Hull development On Friday 29th January, Ms Winterton visited Chevin Housing's Sutton Meadows development in east Hull to assess the progress that is being made to improve Ings and to meet local apprentices Mathew Thompson, James Gardener, Daniel Latus and Ashley Brewer and local contractors GCS Scaffolding and Newtons who are all working on the scheme.

The £27m development, which is being delivered by Chevin Housing Association and Southdale Homes, is currently in its third phase and comprises over 180 homes, 106 of which are already completed or underway.

Work on the next 55 homes is expected to get underway in March following a successful bid for £2.9m from the Government's Kickstart fund. Funding for the Gateway programme comes through the Homes and Communities Agency, which is the national housing and regeneration agency for England.

Rosie Winterton, the Regional Minister said: " I am delighted to be visiting east Hull and to see first hand the excellent regeneration work being taken forward by Gateway with Government support. I am particularly pleased to be visiting the Ings estate, which is an excellent example of how the Government's Kickstart programme is not only delivering much-needed homes but is getting construction workers back on site and creating a new generation of builders ."

David Curtis, Regional Director, Homes and Communities Agency said: "We are delighted to see that the Kickstart funding will not only have helped bring forward the 55 much needed new homes for local residents, but in addition will have created a number of new job opportunities in the area. "

Steve Close, Group Chief Executive of Chevin Housing said: "This is a great boost to the area. It helps recognise the excellent regeneration work in east Hull and helps maintain the impetus. The Sutton Meadows development shows how an area can be improved and the use of local labour is an important part of working with the local community to ensure its success."
