Thurnscoe Community Activities
There are some new community initiatives taking place in Thurnscoe, near Barnsley, including:
- Thurnscoe Alliance - which is a partnership of Chevin, Thurnscoe residents, Keepmoat Construction and Barnsley Metropolitan Borough Council. The group are concerned with supporting community groups by using funds generated from house sales at the brand new 'Seasons' development in Thurnscoe. The Seasons development is built on the former 'Reema' estate and is a mulit-million pound regeneration programme. The Alliance has just awarded its first small grant.
- Thurnscoe Environment Group (TEG) - this group has recently been revived by Chevin resident, George Tomlinson. The group's aim is to improve the natural environment of the village and they have many ideas about how to take this work forward including working with local primary schools doing bulb planting.
- Thurnscoe BIG LOCAL - this group is about developing community infrastructure to administer lottery funds of up to £10 million over the next 10 years in Thurnscoe village. Big lottery have identified Thurnscoe as one of the 150 areas in the UK not having received its fair share of lottery money. Ideas for future projects are currently being developed.
